In response to the growing demand for green spaces and food production in urban environments, rooftop gardening plays a crucial role. However, its successful implementation often faces numerous challenges, such as limited space, water supply, labor shortages, and a lack of proper care knowledge. To address these challenges, DIBL has introduced world-class IoT (Internet of Things) technology, making garden maintenance easy, efficient, and automatic.

📍 Project Details: Smart Rooftop Garden

This project is located on 20 decimal land in Dilkusha, Motijheel area of Dhaka. Established by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and implemented by Drip Irrigation BD Ltd. (DIBL), this project cultivates various fruits and crops such as mangoes, guavas, flowers, and figs. Additionally, crops are also being produced using hydroponics in the greenhouse, which is an ideal example of urban agriculture. The project was led by Agriculturist Mohammad Shamsuzzaman Sumon, Assistant Director, Bogura branch.

🔧 Technology & Installation: IoT automation Dhaka

DIBL has installed an automated greenhouse weather controlling system and a rooftop garden irrigation system in this project. Its core feature is the control of irrigation and other environmental factors using IoT automation Dhaka technology.

Specifically, water sources, high labor costs, and plumbing-related issues were the main challenges of this project. DIBL successfully installed a fogging cooling system to solve these problems, which works by using pump pressure and helps control the temperature and humidity of the greenhouse. This increases crop yield and reduces pests and diseases.

From a technological perspective, various advanced equipment was used in this project:

  • Pump and Filter: For efficient water supply and system cleanliness.
  • DB Box: For electrical safety and control.
  • Adjustable Drippers: Ensures water supply as needed for each plant.
  • WiFi Timer and Solenoid Valve: Automated irrigation control from a distance.
  • Hydroponic Full Setup: For modern soilless farming methods.
  • Sensors (Temperature, Humidity, pH, TDS, EC): For monitoring greenhouse environment and water quality.
  • Dehumidifier: For controlling excess humidity.

This IoT-based system allows farmers to monitor and control the garden from their smartphone or computer. It not only reduces water wastage but also minimizes labor requirements.

🌱 Farmer Benefits and Achievements

The installation of this advanced IoT automation Dhaka system has provided significant benefits to farmers. Key achievements include:

  • Automated Care: The system automatically controls irrigation and weather, saving both time and labor for farmers.
  • High Yield: Proper water, fertilizer, and favorable environment ensure a significant increase in yield.
  • Resource Conservation: Drip irrigation reduces water wastage and increases fertilizer efficiency.
  • Disease Prevention: The fogging system and humidity control reduce the chances of disease spread.
  • Monitoring Facility: Important information like temperature, humidity, pH, TDS, EC can be monitored in real-time through sensors.

This project has created a successful model for urban farmers, proving that profitable agriculture is possible using modern technology despite limited space and challenges.
