DIBL recently successfully installed Irrigation Filtration Rangamati and a modern drip irrigation system in a 1-acre multi-fruit orchard in Kakrachhari, Rajasthali Upazila, Rangamati District. The main objective of this project was to improve the yield and health of the orchards by addressing challenges related to the cleanliness of water sources and supply systems. This problem has been successfully resolved through screen and disk filters, bringing smiles to the farmers’ faces.

📍 Project Details: Irrigation Revolution in Rangamati’s Fruit Orchards
DIBL installed this special project under the PARTNER project, supervised by BADC, Rangamati region. This fruit orchard, located in the Kakrachhari region of Rangamati, typically cultivates guava, coffee, cashew nuts, dragon fruit, mango, and malta. However, farmers here had been facing problems with the quality of irrigation water for a long time. Specifically, algae and other particles from the water source were causing blockages in the drip irrigation pipelines, which created a major obstacle to crop production.
🔧 Technology and Installation: Advanced Irrigation Filtration Rangamati Solutions
To solve this problem, DIBL has installed an integrated and modern drip application system. This system includes:
- DIBL Programmable Timer: Controls irrigation activities automatically, preventing water wastage.
- Filters: Specifically screen and disk filters, which remove all solid particles and algae from the irrigation water, ensuring water quality.
- Venturi: Highly effective for fertilizer application, which reduces fertilizer wastage by 20-40%.
- Pressure Gauge and Air Release Valve: Maintains correct pressure throughout the system and prevents airlock.
- Flush Valve: Automatically cleans accumulated dirt from the system.
- Adjustable Dripper: Controls water flow as needed for each plant.
DIBL team members skillfully installed this entire project. The DIBL team from Chattogram branch, led by Project Manager Agriculturist Md. Riaz Uddin, successfully completed this work. This modern Irrigation Filtration Rangamati system cleans the irrigation water for the orchard, which eliminates the hassle of drip tube blockage and ensures plants receive adequate nutrients and water.
🌱 Farmer Benefits and Results
Farmers are receiving multiple benefits from this new irrigation and filtration system. The provision of clean water has positively impacted plant growth. Diseases are reduced because drip irrigation does not wet plant leaves, only reaching the root zone. This significantly reduces fungal disease incidence. Additionally, effective fertilizer use is increasing yield and reducing production costs. This is an ideal irrigation solution for various fruits, including malta, mango, and dragon fruit.
The success of this project means not just improved yields but also ensuring a sustainable and profitable agricultural method for farmers. With clean water supply, there will be no future obstructions in the drip lines, providing long-term benefits.

🔬 What Does Research Say?
Modern irrigation methods, especially drip irrigation, have brought revolutionary changes in agriculture. Its effectiveness has been proven by various studies:
- Water Saving: Drip irrigation uses 30-60% less water compared to traditional flood or furrow irrigation methods. (Source: Agricultural Water Management, Elsevier).
- Yield Increase: Vegetable yield usually increases by 20-50% with drip irrigation. (Source: Agricultural Water Management, Elsevier).
- Fertilizer Use Efficiency: Drip fertigation (applying fertilizers with irrigation water) increases fertilizer use efficiency, leading to 20-40% less fertilizer needed. (Source: Agricultural Water Management, Elsevier).
- Disease and Weed Control: Drip irrigation delivers water only to the root zone of plants, keeping leaves dry. This helps reduce the incidence of weeds and fungal diseases. (Source: Irrigation Science, Springer).
These scientific data establish the key reasons behind the success of DIBL’s project. The Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh (DAE) and farmer-friendly organizations are also working to raise awareness about the benefits of modern irrigation methods.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
❓ What is an irrigation filtration system and why is it important?
An irrigation filtration system is a technology that removes sand, clay, algae, and other solid particles from irrigation water. For projects like Irrigation Filtration Rangamati, when using rainwater, canal water, or pond water, it is extremely important because impure water can block the pipelines and drippers of a drip irrigation system, rendering the entire system ineffective and damaging crops.
❓ What type of filters were used in this project?
Mainly screen and disk filters were used in this project. Screen filters are effective for trapping large particles, while disk filters play a special role in filtering fine particles. The combination of these two creates a powerful Irrigation Filtration Rangamati system, ensuring water quality.
❓ What problems can occur if filters are not used in a drip irrigation system?
The biggest problem that can occur if filters are not used in a drip irrigation system is the blockage of drippers and pipelines. This prevents adequate water from reaching the plant roots, hindering crop growth and reducing yield. Cleaning the system requires additional labor and time, which increases farmer costs.
❓ How does a programmable timer help farmers?
A programmable timer automatically starts and stops irrigation activities. This eliminates the need for farmers to manually operate the system. It ensures efficient water use, reduces water wastage, and makes the irrigation system more efficient. In projects like Irrigation Filtration Rangamati, it is an integral part of modern agriculture.
